Opportunities to join the UK National Screening Committee

The UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) is looking to appoint 4 new members to support its work advising ministers and the NHS in the 4 UK countries about all aspects of screening.

The independent scientific committee carefully considers evidence about the potential benefits and harms of screening in order to make recommendations on if and how screening programmes should be implemented.

We are looking for 4 expert members with a track record of national achievements in one of the following roles:

  • data scientist
  • health economist/modeller
  • patient and public voice (PPV)/lay member
  • public health

About the roles

As well as specialist skills in their own particular area, candidates should be able to understand and critically consider complex information and scientific and/or medical data and have excellent communication skills.

Lay members should have the desire to make an effective contribution as a representative of all patients, carers and members of the public. Read our additional information about the role of PPV members.

Post holders are not paid but do receive travel and other related expenses. 

Appointment term: successful candidates are usually appointed for a 3-year term, up to a maximum of 3 terms (totalling 9 years). 

Commitment: The UK NSC meets 3 times a year to discuss and agree screening recommendations. Members are also required to engage in the development of documents relating to committee business throughout their term.
